Snap! Space presents ‘WILD IS THE WIND,’ an unconventional visual exploration of freedom and innocence, capturing an ethereal sense of interaction between humankind, native environments, and creatures that inhabit them, through the inspired work of celebrated international artists. Multimedia exhibit, curated by Holly and Patrick Kahn.

Chambers’ new body of work, ‘To the Edge’, is inspired by the austere and striking landscape of Iceland. The rolling green hills, moody skies, rocky vistas, the flora and fauna of a country that set the stage for Tom’s constructed images. He adds text from Allen Chamberlain’s Iceland poetry to create painterly and metaphoric constructions that speak to nature, memory, and possibility. Tom Chambers was born and raised on a farm in the Amish country of Lancaster, Pennsylvania. His work has been shown internationally through solo and group exhibits, including at Snap! 2012 URBAN WILD, and our ‘EDGE OF A DREAM’ exhibit, in 2014 . Tom has received a variety of awards, as well as the fellowships from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts and the Virginia Commission for the Arts.
Martin Stranka, whose images exist in that narrow window between dreaming and awakening, won numerous international photography awards including Professional Photographer of the Year, Sony World Photography Awards, EISA Photo Maestro, and International Photo Awards two years in a row. Stranka’s work was presented in prestigious galleries such as Saatchi Gallery and Robert Fontaine Gallery, exhibited alongside Andy Warhol, Annie Leibovitz, Banksy, Damien Hirst, Helmut Newton, and
Albert Watson. Martin’s work was exhibited at Snap! Orlando in 2013 in our ‘MOTION TO LIGHT’ exhibit.
‘Seen Not Heard’ takes its title from the Old English adage ‘To Be Seen and Not Heard,’ a term often thrown about in reference to the desired behavior of children. These images are silent, but they create a voluble visual narrative on the relationship between parent and child. They explore the cycles that are passed down through generations and the tension between keeping to what is known and forging a newer, and perhaps stronger, path. As strong as the close, forever bond between mother and daughter is, there also exists a distance inherent between two different individuals. Heather Evans Smith is an award winning fine art photographer based in North Carolina. Heather’s first appearance at Snap! was in 2014 in our ‘EDGE OF A DREAM’ exhibit.
Cameron Bloom documents the story of Penguin the Magpie, a rescued bird and her human family. It begins with a shocking accident, in which Cameron Bloom’s wife, Sam, suffers a near fatal fall that leaves her paralyzed. Into their lives comes Penguin, an injured magpie chick abandoned after she fell from her nest. Penguin’s rescue and the incredible joy and strength she gives Sam, and all those who helped her survive, demonstrates that, however bleak things seem, compassion, friendship and support can come from unexpected quarters, ensuring there are always better days ahead. This photo series is exhibited for the first time! ‘Penguin Bloom,’ Cameron Bloom’s first book, featuring his exceptional photographs and a captivating narrative by New York Times bestselling author Bradley Trevor Greive, will be published in April 2016, by ABC Books.
SAFARI URBAIN is a series of photographs featuring animals redesigned and projected on facades of buildings through an embedded video-projection system. A visual artist and founding member of Le3 creative studio, Julien Nonnon’s work essentially articulates the interaction of his creations with the architecture and urban elements surrounding him. This process has brought numerous artistic projects to completion, combining street art, kinetic installations, digital creations and video mapping. Showing the desire to see his works in the street, he developed his own tools allowing him therefore to project his creations in any location that inspires him. His work has been featured in The Huffington Post, NBC News, Design Boom, Inside Art, Architectural Digest, Vice, The Post Internazionale.
Indonesian artist Elicia Edijanto captures unique connection between animals and children using only black and white watercolors. Small, vulnerable children stand alongside creatures of the wild, elephants, wolves and bears with peace and confidence. Those dreamlike-scenes are tranquil and contemplative. “Nature inspires me. My subjects are often children and animals because they are sincere, unprejudiced and unpretentious. There’s an innate relationship between them. Our children sing songs about animals, they have toy animals, they have books about animals, and they dream about animals. My hope is that my art will remind us of how human-nature relationship is supposed to be, beautiful and harmonious.” says Elicia.
David Olivera (born 1983) is a Miami based artist whose works focus on creating historically accurate maritime paintings and formal abstraction of the sea gathered through personal observations. His art has been featured in The Other Eight Art Magazine, and in the book Titanic: Secrets of the Lost Liner. He currently works for a prestigious art conservation company, Rosa Lowinger and Associates, specializing in the preservation of art and architecture. David’s paintings are on view at Snap! Space through January 30th, and in New York, at Bernarducci Meisel Gallery in 2016.
