'Virunga' Gallery Opening
Snap! Space presented 'VIRUNGA' by Adam Kiefer, 'GOOD TROUBLE | PORTRAITS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF HISTORY' by Jaime Margary, 'PRESENT TENSE' by Peterson J Guerrier and 'INTERCONNECTED' by Ya La'ford.
VIRUNGA is Africa’s oldest National Park, one of the most bio-diverse places in the world, and home to the last of the mountain gorillas. It is also the most dangerous park to protect as over 140 rangers have lost their lives. Adam Kiefer is an Orlando based conservation photographer whose work has taken him to Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo, since 2013. Over the years, Kiefer has photographed the wildlife, and the brave park rangers, men and women, who risk their lives everyday to protect it. The park was founded in 1925 by King Albert I of Belgium, to protect the mountain gorillas living in the forests of the Virunga Massif that were controlled by the Belgian Congo. Virunga was featured in an Academy Award nominated documentary produced by Leonardo DeCaprio (see trailer: vimeo.com/92226142). Featured in OG1 and OG2 galleries are artists Ya La’Ford, Jaime Margary, and Peterson Guerrier.
Exhibitions were on view through April 22 2017. Sponsored by The Bougainvillea Clinique and Sam Flax of Orlando.
